  Interview with the Founder and Chief Gamer of Razer专访Razer(雷蛇)创始人兼首席玩家Min

  Q: Dear Mr Chen. Thank you for taking the time for this interview. Razer is renowned to be one of the world's greatest gaming brands but do tell us more about the company in your own words.

  Q:陈先生,您好,感谢您百忙之中来接受这次采访。Razer(雷蛇)作为在全球享有盛誉的顶级游戏品牌之一,我们非常希望能从您这里了解到更多关于这个公司,这个品牌。

  A: First up, call me Min - we don't call people by last names in Razer.  I was one of the founders of the company and the President, Robert "Razerguy" Krakoff, and I founded the company in California, USA a couple of years ago. We started the company together because we were both hardcore gamers and we believed that there were many gamers out there with a similar passion for peripherals that provide a competitive edge in games. I used to be a semi-professional/competitive gamer myself and we wanted to create a company where we could bring in other gamers and create awesome products for other gamers like ourselves. Today, we're one of the largest gaming companies in the world with our headquarters in Southern California, regional offices in Europe and Asia and our design centers are based in San Francisco, CA and Singapore. We have a few hundred staff and our company is run with our motto of "For Gamers, By Gamers." We only hire gamers.

  A:首先,叫我Min就可以了-在Razer我们通常不会称呼对方的姓。我是Razer的创始人之一,另一位是总裁Robert "Razerguy" Krakoff先生,在很多年前于美国加州创立了这间公司。我们2个都是忠实的游戏玩家,我们都坚信有很多玩家和我们一样,对于在游戏中能带来竞争优势的游戏外设充满着激情,我自己也曾是一个半职业选手,于是我们就打算要创立一个由玩家组成的公司,可以给像我们一样的游戏大众带来前沿的令人称赞的产品。

  今天,我们已经是世界上最大的游戏外设公司之一,总部位于美国加州南部,在欧洲和亚洲都有分公司,设计中心位于美国的旧金山和新加坡。现有几百名员工,我们始终信守"始于玩家,赋予玩家",作为公司的宗旨。公司在招聘员工也只考虑玩家。

  Q: Min, tell us about your role in Razer.Q:Min,能谈谈您在Razer的角色是怎样的?

  A: My official title is Chief Gamer (for real) but my role is to head out the product and industrial design of every single product in the company together with my design teams in San Francisco and Singapore. Every single design element coming from Razer comes through my review and my full time job is pretty much to play games all day and dream up awesome kick ass cool stuff together with the Razer team.  So in short, I don't really have a job - it's an awesome life I know.

  A;我的职位是首席玩家(说真的),但我的主要职责是领导位于旧金山及新加坡的设计团队进行每个产品规划的每个产品工业设计。Razer产品的每一个设计元素的确定都需要经过我亲自审查,我的大多工作时间会花在的游戏中,并与Razer团队一起去创意出一些大家都觉得时尚又超级酷的东西。简而言之,我并非拥有真正的工作----但是我知道,这是我要的生活。

  Q: What do you think of the gamers in China and how do you find the country? Q:你怎样看待中国的玩家,对中国印象如何?

  A: China is awesome and the gamers here are pretty damn cool. The number of gamers here are phenomenal and it's great to see so much happening here with companies like Tencent and others leading the way.  I've got a couple of personal friends over here that play competitively like WE.SKY Li Xiao Feng and Meng "Rocketboy" Yang - I've known them for a really long time, back when I used to play competitively too. As for China, I was in Li Jiang, Yunnan, for a short holiday last week - the ancient cities were awesome and the scenery was breathtaking. I've also been to Shanghai, Beijing, Fujian and a couple of other cities and I find every city I go to really interesting - I love this country.

  A:中国是个神奇的地方,中国的玩家非常酷,个性又时尚。这里游戏玩家的数量非常庞大,我们很高兴能和腾讯这样的行业领导者一起见证这里的发展。我个人在中国也有很多职业玩家的朋友诸如Team WE Sky李晓峰和Rocketboy孟阳,我们已经认识很久了,说回来当时我还曾经也是个半职业玩家的时候了。

  对于中国,到过很多地方,如上海,北京,福建以及很多其他的城市,就在上周我还去了云南丽江度过一个短暂假期-----一座很美的古城,景色让我很难忘。我觉得中国的城市都有自己的特色---我爱这个国家。

  Q: Razer's products have a cult following and the design identity is very strong. Tell us more about your design philosophy.Q:Razer的产品总能引来狂热的崇拜,而且你们的产品设计非常独特Razer的色彩很强烈,能和我们谈一下你的设计理念么?

  A:  We believe that every Razer product must be designed to perfection and it's a constant iterative process over and over again. We are artists at Razer, not engineers and we create products with multiple teams with a single goal of attaining perfection. We create, change, and improve over and over and over again.You'll realize that you can instantly identify a Razer product without even looking at the logo - that's the design team at work - we have a very strong identity and it's always about creating something absolutely fucking cool - we never compromise. If we don't like even the smallest thing about any product, we destroy it and start over again. We only make phenomenal products - that's the Razer way. Perfection ftw!

  A:我们坚信每件Razer的出品都是必须通过不断的设计才能达到最终的完美,整个过程是包含着无数次反复再反复的修改,在不懈的坚持我们的设计理念下,直至达到最终满意。

  在Razer,我们是艺术家而非工程师,我们的多个团队只朝着同一个目标去努力-那就是力求完美的创作出产品,我们创造,革新,并且一次又一次不断的的改进就只为了这一个目标----完美。

  你会发现不需看到Razer标志就能马上认出它是一件Razer的产品- 那正是设计团队所做的事-我们有很鲜明的特色能被辨识出来,我们总是在创造一些绝对酷的玩意-这点我们绝不妥协。如果我们对产品不满意,即使是一个最小的细节,我们也会摧毁它并且推翻重来。

  我们只做卓着不凡的完美产品-那是Razer的选择,完美至上FTW!

  Q: How was it like working with Tencent? Why is Razer launching a new product globally together with Tencent?

  和腾讯的合作是怎么样的?为什么雷蛇会同腾讯一起进行一款新产品的全球发布?

  A:腾讯是个非常了不起的公司,一直一来都能给玩家惊喜。我们也非常高兴能和腾讯一起合作做接下来《战地之王》的合作,这是本年度最让人期待的游戏之一。我们现在有一款非常棒的,适合我们双方的合作,我们的产品将能在游戏中给玩家带来直接的竞争优势,所以我们决定将和腾讯一起在中国随《战地之王》的发布来发布这款产品。

  A: Tencent has always been an incredible company. We were really excited to be working with them on the upcoming launch of AVA, one of the most anticipated games of this year. We've got a great product that will give gamers playing the game a definite edge and we look forward to unveiling that real soon together with Tencent at the launch of AVA in China. Tencent really rocks.

  Q: It's a real honor to have been able to interview you, Min, in closing, tell us more about yourself personally and if you have any words for the gamers here in China.能采访您真的感到非常荣幸,Min,最后,和我们聊下一些自己吧,以及您有什么话想对中国的玩家说的。

  A: Well, thanks for your time, it's been fun. There's really very little about me to speak of. I'm a hardcore gamer - I play games all the time - I'm single (and very available in case anyone's interested) and I spend most of my time travelling a lot. While I'm based in the US, I hope to be in China pretty soon and I'll definitely be at the launch of AVA in China!
